Boiler Repair — Steam & Hot Water

North Jersey’s housing stock runs on boilers — steam radiators in the pre-war colonials, hydronic baseboard in everything since. Boiler work is its own trade, and it’s one J&M has practiced here since 2006.

Plenty of HVAC companies are really air-conditioning companies that will “take a look” at a boiler. Our technicians actually know steam: pressure controls, low-water cutoffs, wet returns, circulators, zone valves. That’s the difference between a fix and a callback.

Common boiler problems we fix

  • Radiators cold on one floor — or one end of the house
  • Banging or clanking pipes (water hammer)
  • Boiler losing pressure or constantly needing water
  • Kettling — a rumbling boiler that sounds like a tea kettle
  • Pilot or ignition failures
  • Water pooling around the boiler

What we service

  • Steam boilers — pressuretrols, low-water cutoffs, vents, wet and dry returns
  • Hot-water (hydronic) systems — circulators, zone valves, expansion tanks, aquastats
  • All major boiler brands, including Peerless, Crown, and Lochinvar
  • Radiator and baseboard balancing so every room actually gets heat
  • Combustion testing and safety checks with every repair

FAQ

Boiler Repair — common questions

Don’t see your question? Call 862-703-4222 — a real person answers, 24/7/365.

Why are my radiators cold when the boiler is running?

On steam systems it’s usually air that can’t escape — failed radiator vents or main vents. On hot-water systems, a stuck zone valve, a dead circulator, or air trapped in the loop. Either way it’s diagnosable in one visit, and usually fixable in the same one.

What causes banging pipes?

On steam heat, banging (“water hammer”) means condensate is pooling where it shouldn’t — often from radiator pitch, a flooded return, or a failing steam trap. It’s not just annoying; it’s the system telling you something is wrong. We find the cause instead of just living with the noise.

Do you work on steam boilers?

Yes — genuinely, not reluctantly. Steam is common across Essex, Passaic, and Bergen county homes built before the 1950s, and it’s a core part of our heating work every winter.

Is a leaking boiler an emergency?

Treat it like one. A small leak can be a relief-valve or fitting issue; it can also signal a failing section. Shut off the water feed if you can, and call us at 862-703-4222 — we’re available around the clock.
