Oil-to-Gas Heat Conversion

No more oil deliveries, no more tank in the basement, no more praying the price per gallon behaves this winter. Natural gas is piped in, burns cleaner, and pairs with modern high-efficiency equipment that oil burners simply can’t match.

A conversion touches your utility, your municipality, and your mechanical room — which is why homeowners who try to quarterback it themselves burn months on it. J&M has run this play across North Jersey since 2006, and we’re TracPipe-certified for the gas piping work at the heart of it. You make one call; we run the project.

Why NJ homeowners convert

  • Lower, steadier fuel costs — gas has historically beaten oil per unit of heat
  • No deliveries to schedule and no tank to fill, monitor, or insure
  • Cleaner combustion and less equipment maintenance
  • Access to high-efficiency condensing boilers and furnaces
  • Removing an aging oil tank before it becomes an environmental liability

What J&M handles end to end

  • Coordination with your gas utility to bring service to the house (if it isn’t there yet)
  • Certified gas piping from the meter to your new equipment
  • New high-efficiency boiler or furnace, sized to your home
  • Oil tank decommissioning or removal per NJ code
  • Chimney liner installation where required
  • All permits and inspections — municipal and utility

FAQ

Oil-to-Gas Conversion — common questions

Don’t see your question? Call 862-703-4222 — a real person answers, 24/7/365.

How long does an oil-to-gas conversion take?

The mechanical work is typically a few days. The overall timeline is usually driven by the utility bringing gas service to your street or house, which can take weeks depending on your town. We start that clock as early as possible and manage it for you.

Do you handle the utility paperwork?

Yes — we coordinate the gas service application, meter set, permits, and inspections. It’s the project-management half of a conversion, and it’s included in how we do the job.

What happens to my old oil tank?

It’s decommissioned or removed according to New Jersey requirements — which matters for insurance and for selling your home later. Buried tanks deserve particular attention; we’ll walk you through your options for yours.

Is gas really cheaper than oil?

Prices move, but natural gas has historically delivered heat at a meaningfully lower cost than oil in New Jersey — and conversion unlocks equipment with much higher efficiency than aging oil burners. We’ll estimate the payback for your usage honestly before you commit.
